An Encounter With a Jinn (Genie) In Egypt

Last Sunday (Jan. 3, 2010) I gave a talk to the New Thought Church in Kealakekua (on Hawaii Island) about something extraordinary that happened to me recently in Egypt.
Our travel group was exploring a large mortuary temple called Medinet Habu near the Valley of the Kings on December 10 when two of my friends, Lorenzo and Coyote (aka Lawrence and Barry), told me they had gotten a huge energy surge in a small shrine near the entrance of the complex.
I went back to the shrine to check it out and after admiring a carved granite altar stone at the entrance, I followed my protocol of announcing who I was and what my purpose was for being there, then I asked permission to enter.
Upon stepping into the building, I felt something… it seemed large and rather neutral in its energy expression. I walked cautiously into a narrow corridor whose walls were covered with hieroglyphs. The passageway created a stone-roofed walkway that wrapped around the perimeter of the central room itself (creating a building within a building.)
I paused in the dim corridor, perhaps twelve feet high, and closed my eyes. I waited, then amped up, causing my energy body to surge dramatically. (I have written about my ability to do this in my Spiritwalker Trilogy.) Immediately, I felt a presence. It was right there in the corridor with me. I cracked open an eye. Nothing! Just the tall, dim passageway before and behind me. Whatever it was, it was invisible.
My attention was drawn to the wall to my right and I was started to see an eyeball on the wall—a single living eyeball that suddenly swiveled to look directly at me. Surprised (to say the least) I opened both my eyes and the eye on the wall disappeared as my consciousness shifted to be replaced by a flat hieroglyph behind it carved as an eye. Was it the building itself that was observing me, I wondered? I had no chance to find out as we were on a schedule…
But a day later, we were on our cruise ship heading south up the Nile River toward Edfu, and the group had gathered to do shamanic journeywork in the meeting room behind the bar in the afternoon. I had my drum for sonic liftoff and it was my suggestion that each person bring up a memory of one of the sites that we had visited over the past few days, a place with which they felt a strong connection. And then, following that energetic connection, they would journey back there to investigate the site at the transpersonal level assisted by my drum.
I decided to journey back to the Habu temple, to find out who was living in the shrine. As I began to drum for the group, I closed my eyes and re-geographied my conscious awareness back into that narrow, dim corridor of the shrine in my shamanic ‘dream-body’ and when I arrived, this time there were two eyeballs looking at me as well as the ‘presence’ I had felt the day before. With my arrival, it ‘fluttered’ uncertainly.
To cut to the chase, I discovered there was a Jinn living in the shrine or to be more precise, a jinni (genie) since it was male (female Jinn are called jinniya.) Once before in Egypt I had encountered a Jinn (in 2003—a full article will be posted under Shaman Wisdom shortly.)
Those familiar with the Holy Ku’ran (Koran) will know that the prophet Mohammed himself spoke about the Jinn and proclaimed them as real. Formed of holy fire (energy) and normally invisible (but capable of becoming visible at their pleasure,) the Jinn are spirits who live in (usually lonely) places in Nature. They come in three varieties, flying Jinn, earthbound Jinn and water Jinn. The Ku’ran says that they are moral, but as all who encounter them know, they can be mischievous, even malicious at times.
They may fall into the same category as the faeries since they live in this world (not the spirit world.) If they come into relationship with you and you cannot control them, they may very well control you and this can cause serious problems, so I approached the jinni in the shrine with caution.
We then had an extraordinary conversation directed by my inner anthropologist, of course, who knows how to ask the right questions.

THE STONE HAS RETURNED TO THE ISLAND...
If you have read the Spiritwalker Trilogy, then you are aware of our relationship with a sacred stone... an object of great power that came into our lives in 1987. This occurred on The Big Island of Hawai'i through the visionary pipeline established between Hank and his descendent Nainoa, who lives far away in the future.
In fact, we are much aware that the akua (spirit) living in this stone may well have facilitated this connection in the first place. This pohaku (Hawaiian for "stone") then became a moving force in all that transpired in our lives from that time onward, and those who have read Spiritwalker will remember that the stone agreed to accompany us out into the world, and that Hank, in turn agreed to convey it back to the island before his transition.
The pohaku has now returned and is happily watching all that transpires in our household in Honaunau on Hawai'i Island in a watchful way, periodically draped with maile leis and graced with flowers from the garden. One might even say that the stone has become a guardian - through fire and water initiations. In November a year ago, we had a really big cyclonic storm come into the island off the southern ocean, and in the ensuing torrential downpours (seven inches in four hours) we lost most of our 125 coffee trees as well as much of our topsoil. But the house was untouched... so the stone continues to be instrumental in the direction, challenges and graceful passages of our lives.
But the stone... we mention this because many of the participants in our workshops used to ask us to report in when the stone returned to the island. They asked because they knew that the collapse of the Western world couldn't happen while the stone was still in California . Hmmmm....
LIFE IN PARADISE ...
We have now been back on-island for roughly 18 months and we are in the (slow) process of converting our former one acre farm into terraced gardens devoted to food production. If you think one acre is small, let us share that keeping up with the weeding on this lovely piece of land in the tropics is a hero's quest, and we are gonna be able to grow a lot of food on this land.
There is a growing activist community of farmers devoted to creating agricultural sustainability on our island. We are meeting these good folks and are slowly getting to know them. Our goal is to become self-sufficient and sustainable, so that we can eat off our land, with surplus to share with our neighbors, friends and co-conspirators. Jill's "kitchen" garden has created a great space for production and learning. Several farm tours, tropical gardening classes and indigenous plant acquisitions have expanded our knowledge and dirtied our hands. Our heads and hearts love it.
WORKSHOPS and MORE...
In the midst of all this, we are still traveling to the mainlands, almost a dozen times each year, to offer our Visionseeker shamanic training workshops at various centers around the country. Many have called these gatherings life-changing, and it is gratifying to meet up with former participants who repeat a workshop years later to sharpen the sword of their visionary abilities and who continue to be in service to their community of family and friends.
Jill's practice in soul retrieval continues.... mostly at-a-distance sessions with a broadening clientele internationally. She does have consultation space at the Honaunau Healing Arts Center, located in South Kona. The surrounding nature is extraordinary and many a session includes the presence of geckos and the punctuation of roosters crowing.
